Presentation
A 16-year-old girl was brought to the ER due to fever, chills, and a diffuse sunburn-like rash that had developed over the past day. On examination, the patient appeared ill with a fever of 104°F (40°C). She was tachycardic and hypotensive. Widespread erythematous blanching macules and patches were seen. Laboratory examination showed leukocytosis, bandemia, elevated blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and elevated creatinine. The patient underwent septoplasty 2 days prior for a deviated septum, and nasal packing was utilized to manage postoperative bleeding.
