The continuous glucose monitor Guardian Sensor 3 received an expanded indication by the FDA, the maker said Monday, allowing upper arm placement.

Used with the firm's closed loop MiniMed 670G system for insulin delivery -- the very first "artificial pancreas" on the market -- the Guardian Sensor 3 for teens and adults with type 1 diabetes, was previously approved only for placement around the abdomen. The sensor also has improved accuracy, Medtronic said, with a mean absolute relative difference of 8.7% with typical calibration methods when used with the closed loop system.
